Franz Liszt

Miriam Gómez-Morán, piano

Categories: Other
Period: Romanticism

Overview

There have been few composers who have succeeded in uniting personal sensitivity in their work with the intellectual currents of their times. Profoundly influenced by the new philosophical, political and above all religious theories of his age, Franz Liszt represents the prototype of the cultivated, romantic and philanthropic musician who saw in art a route to the improvement of human essence.

The Hungarian’s piano output is astonishing because of its technical quality, and for its deep mystical imprint, clearly evidenced by the selection of works brought together by the young pianist Miriam Gómez-Morán in her first recording for Verso. This is an excellent program, ranging effortlessly through the composer’s religious feeling in a journey from the intimate and melancholic withdrawal of Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude to the luminous and sincere spirituality of the Weinen, Klagen Variations.
